US WWII USMC Sun Helmet, US Embassy London, 1942

This item is listed for historical interest only. It was listed on our site previously but has been sold and is no longer available for purchase.
Sold for: $150.00
Item #43237

Original era manufacture. A tan cloth covered USMC issue sun helmet, which is dated 1943 on the inside of the crown. Bronze color USMC EGA on the front of the helmet, which looks as if it has been there forever.

Inkstamped on the underside of the visor are two names, D.F. Bechter and T.P. Connolly, with Connolly's name handwritten in the crown. On the underside of the rear portion of the visor are the following duty stations; Paris Island, Norfolk Virginia, Quantico Virginia, Washington D.C., Brooklyn N.Y., London England, Roseneath Scotland, Halifax Nova Scotia, Quantico Va., New River N.C., Oceanside Calif., San Diego Calif., Berkeley Calif.

Doing a quick look on Fold3, I found a Thomas P Connolly stationed at the US Embassy in London in early 1942, and another Thomas P Connolly enrolled in the V-12 program in California. Excellent potential for further research.

Normal age and wear, no chinstrap.
