Original era manufacture. A very presentable set, once worn by Fireman Second Class, Walter Wm. F. Nienaber, US Navy 1918-1922. During his service, he did his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, later serving aboard the USS Maine, USS Stephen and USS Minnesota.

The lot consists of his blue wool watch cap, dress hat with US NAVY tally, blue wool jumper, black silk neckerchief and bell bottom trousers. In addition there is a photograph of him in uniform, with his US Navy War Certificate stating his service details and other information.

The set is quite sound, showing typical age and wear, with a repair in the neck flap, and a few scattered moth bites. Purchased from his Granddaughter.

Of note, both the USS Maine and USS Minnesota, were pre-dreadnaught class battleships which took part in the cruise of the Great White Fleet 1908-09. The USS Minnesota, struck a mine placed by a German U-Boot of off the eastern coast of the USA in September of 1918,
