Original era manufacture. This is a high quality, likely one-off blue steel cannon. The barrel or tube measures eight inches in length and is drilled through to the touch-hole so could be fired. Around the muzzle is the name BETHUREM R.I.ILL. Doing a quick internet search displayed a number of hits for a Bethurem family in the area. Rock Island Illinois is of course the location of the US Arsenal bearing the same name. On the left mount face is engraved MODEL U.S., 12 POUNDER 1857. The cannon is entirely made of machined steel with a deep blue-black finish. The quality of work is outstanding and no doubt performed by someone very familier with military weaponry. 10mm bore.
