Original period manufacture. Classic US Cavalry edged weaponmade by the famous firm of AmesManufacturing Company of Chicopee Massachusetts. The 1861 blade date sets this swords place in time at the opening of hostilities, allowing the sword to be a mute witnessto the events of the next four years. The 35 inch polished steel blade is very clean, runs straight and true with makers name and date on the ricasso. Three branch brass guard and pommel cap in good repair, original leather wrapped grip with single brass wire binding. Bright steel scabbard is dent free, shows a recent cleaning, with evidence of light pitting along its length. Overall the sword is quite sound, the only detractions being the cleaning of the scabbard and an attempt by a previous owner to clean the patina on the guard.
