Original era manufacture. I have seen similar pattern swords referred to as the M1873, however we have an example in our own collection which is dated 1865. Anyway, this is a nice old soldier with a larger than normally encountered, P-guard without langets. 30 inch lightly curved blade with issue proofs on the spine. The blade doesn't appear to have been sharpened, it presents a bright finish, just some light spotting and graying from age. The wood grip retains about 50% of its leather covering, nice patina to the exposed wood though. Unit markings on the guard which nearly match the visible example on the scabbard, save for the individual weapon number. The scabbard has a nice steel patina with an old varnished finish, few scattered shallow dents.
