German Franco-Prussian War Era, M1864 Faschinenmesser & Scabbard

Quantity:
Price:  $350.00

Item #39920

Original era manufacture. A very clean example of the pattern 1864 Faschinenmesser, with issue marks on the spine of a Crown W 71, and unit markings on the guard 16. I. D. 35, (light munitions column attached to an Infantry division), similar markings can be seen on the scabbard throat, with the exception of the weapon number is 5, not 35.

The blade is bright, in original polish, with scattered spots of cleaned surface corrosion and light pitting. Two piece cast brass grip, with a nice old patina finish.

Sound, black leather bodied scabbard with tight stitching, with a brass throat and chape, each showing light dings and dents from service use.

At some point in the past a 98/05 bayonet frog was placed on the scabbard, although photographic evidence does show these old sidearms being used in WWI. Few small tears in the leather but sound enough for display.
