Item #41625

Original era manufacture. This magnificent quality tunic has me stumped as to what it is exactly. I believe it is French, of the era stated and the gold embroidery on the collar indicates staff. The cuff rank I believe is for a Captain, while the design of the garment indicates cavalry, and the color, perhaps a colonial troop.

The physical description follows; small size, doeskin wool tunic, with black silk frogging, gilded brass, Hussar toggles and sunburst buttons, with a gold wire knot on each shoulder.

The color is quite bright, as is the gilding, and wire embroidery. There is an L-shaped repair in the right armpit, and a moth bite or small tear on the rear of the collar. The left armpit shows a repair to the stitching.

The red and white silk lining is fairly complete, showing wear from service use, but no major tears or holes. The size is about a 34-36, and makes a very eye-catching display piece.
