 Original era photography. Nice little grouping of five bw photos and a calling card for Wallace H. Carpenter, First Lieutenant AEF. Three of the photos are postcard size and the remaining two are smaller. There are period inscriptions and sentiments inscribed on the reverse of several of the photos and calling card. Nice early aviation lot.

 A nice clear image of Captain Richard Barrett, 47th Massachusetts Infantry, in civilian life he was a lumber dealer. After the war he lived in Concord, Mass and was a member of GAR Post #180 (Old Concord). He died 2/11/1887 in Concord, MA.

 Original era photograph. Sepia tone photo on gray card stock, the image measures about 4x5 inches. The soldier is shown holding a 45-70 rifle in his hands while wearing a single loop cartridge belt with bayonet and cast US plate. On his cap may be seen the crossed cannon device for H Battery, 1st Artillery. Small chip in the image over the soldiers chin. Very clear.

 Original era photography. Glass ambrotype image measuring 4 x 3 inches. The man is seated with his hands placed in his lap. One eye looks directly at the camera and he is shwon wearing traditional Japanese dress and split toed socks.
This is housed in a full balsa wood case and balsa wood mat. There is writing on the outside of the front and back of the case. Meiji Period. There is a Temple stamp on the case as well.

 Original era photography. Sepia tone image by E.Flamant of Paris. General, later Marshall, MacMahon commanded the southern wing of the French Army of the Rhine during the Franco-German War of 1870-1871. At the Battle of Sedan he was wounded and went into captivity along with the French Army and Napoleon III.

 Original era photography. Sepia toned CDV taken from life by Brady Studios. Hooker commanded the Army of the Potomac during the Battle of Chancellorsville in May of 1863. Stunned as a result of a cannonball strike on the porch pillar he was leaning against, he was accused by some of drunkeness during the battle. Sound image, edges trimmed.

Perhaps the sailor was wounded and lost an arm in the recent conflict with Imperial Russia.
