German WWI M1918 Ear Cut-Out Steel Helmet, ET64 (6 photos)
$2450.00
|
Original era manufacture. Sound example of a rare WWI era German helmet. Size marked ET64 on the inside of the neck skirt as it should be. Dark plum steel patina mixed with feldgrau exterior, a bit more of the feldgrau finish can be seen on the helmets interior. Steel liner band secured with three matching finish rivets, one of the leather liner pads has pulled away, the other two are secure. The chinstrap side with the snaphook is sound, the other, shorter side has broken. Lot number stamped into the crown of the helmet is R1865N, interestingly it is 66 numbers off from a similar helmet in our own collection. Purchased locally here in Arizona from a longtime collector now downsizing.

German WWII Army M1940 Steel Helmet (4 photos)
$795.00
|
Original era manufacture. Rough combat texture feldgrau paint finish over the entire helmet. No visible size or makers marks on the interior, the paint is just too thick. Nice Heer pattern decal which shows a slightly scuffed surface and is placed on the helmet at a slight angle. All three rivets are in place with a matching paint finish to the helmet, however none of the slot washers are present. An intact liner with drawstring, some of the liner ends have dried a bit, steel liner band. Decent RBN marked original black leather chinstrap which has a slight nick in the edge. Size about a 58.

US Indian Scout Dress Helmet, 1890 (6 photos)
$2200.00
|
Original era manufacture. Introduced in 1890 through the efforts of 1st Lieutenant Edward Casey of the 22nd US Infantry, then commanding a company of North Cheyanne mounted scouts stationed at Fort Keogh Montana. This pattern helmet is the only US dress helmet of the era to feature multiple colors in its plume and cording. We purchased this helmet from a retired USMC officer, a Citadel graduate, who received the helmet as a present from his Mother in 1964 who purchased the helmet at the Soldier Shop in New York city. The helmet is nearly complete, missing its thin leather chinstrap and adjusting buckle. The felt body of the helmet is sound, not crushed or broken with all of the brass fittings displaying an even and muted patina. The eight strand plume of four red, four white sections extends 6 inches below the edge of the helmet, which is correct for this pattern. The cords and paddles show considerable wear and fraying but are in the correct red/white configuration. Crossed arrow side buttons and a German silver crossed arrow overlay on the brass eagle front plate. The crossed arrow emblems were personally designed by Lieutenant Casey. At the time of our purchase the thin leather body band was loose and in danger of tearing off. We carefully applied a watered down mix of white glue and water to the underside of the strap and secured it to the helmet body. In addition, two of the three small brass loops which held the eagle plate in place were missing. We had a poor condition 1872 cavalry emblem in stock, from which I removed two brass attaching loops and secured them to the rear of the plate so it would sit properly on the front of the helmet. The leather sweatband is tattered and is missing a four inch section on one side. Some surface scuffing can be seen on the edge binding of the helmets rim. This helmet and its accompanying fittings have been together for a long, long time, with a pedigree of ownership reaching back nearly 50 years.

German WWII Army M1935/40 Steel Helmet, Complete (6 photos)
$550.00
|
Original era manufacture. ET64 size stamped in the skirt, portions of the original eagle decal as shown, just a faint ghost of where the tri-color once lived. About 40% of the factory Apple Green paint finish remains on the exterior, with about 80% on the interior. Traces of the oval inkstamp can be seen in the crown and a handpainted name is inside the rear neckskirt. Original chinstrap which is maker marked and dated 1940. The liner band shows a 1939 date and has the early alloy style retaining rivets, however, none of the slot washers are in place. The liner is intact with the leather being a little stiff and all of the adjusting holes are intact. Can't explain the lack of the slot washers, but everything else about this old helmet say's, Yup, I'm an M1935 stahlhelm.

Austrian WWI Steel Helmet, Partial Liner & Chinstrap, Vet Family Purchase (4 photos)
$575.00
|
Original era manufacture. Another helmet from our friend here in Arizona. In this instance it is an Austrian pattern helmet brought home by the same doughboy from WWI. Brown paint finish, partial liner and strap. The liner pads are made from black painted linen all show wear and damage from age. The cloth chinstrap is sound, just needs a new buckle to complete. All of the rivets are in place and the paint finish is sound. Never cleaned, or polished, just like it came from the storage shed.

US Korean War Battle Damaged Partropper Helmet & Liner (5 photos)
$395.00
|
Original era manufacture. This helmet was found by a friend of ours while driving by a local estate/garage sale. According to our friend, he asked the people holding the sale if there were any military items available. The lady thought a moment, and said she didn't think so, but her husband spoke up about an old army hat in the garage. So in the husband goes, rummages around in a storage cabinet and emerges with this helmet in hand. The wife saw it and exclaimed, Oh that! My Dad used to tease me, saying if it weren't for that helmet I wouldn't be here. Our friend pressed her for details about her Father's service and was told he served with the Paratroops in Korea. She said she couldn't remember much about his service but did remember that his unit had a funny name. Our friend (being an army vet and collector himself) asked, was it Rakkasan? Our Lady replied, yes, that's what it sounded like. Our friend then asked if he could write down her father's name and a bit of history about him and would she sign it? The husband then came running back out of the garage saying, we're not signing anything! Our friend paid the lady what she wanted and left. So no name accompanies this great old helmet. Standard WWII style M1 helmet with a reflective edge and seamed in back. The chinstraps have the T-1 connectors allowing for easy replacement/repair in the field. The left front of the helmet shows a rather dramatic missle strike in the steel. It didn't penetrate but it was a solid hit. The Westinghouse marked liner (no front grommet) has a corresponding indentation, which in its case, resulted in a hole being punched through the liners surface. No doubt our Paratrooper had a severe headache after this incident. The helmet is complete and is quite dramatic visually.

Original M1931 leather liner and rivets with a complete WWII style chinstrap. Dark feldgrau finish to the steel helmet, original Army pattern decal as shown. The helmet has not been cleaned in many years and displays an out-of-the-attic look to it. Nice old helmet from a fairly unusual maker.

US WWII Navy M1 Helmet Shell (5 photos)
$135.00
|
Original era manufacture. Swivel bale, non-reflective edge, seamed in back, steel pot with a dark blue paint finish over the original OD. On the rear of the helmet is a vertical white stripe, the front of the helmet has been sanded and stenciled with a white eagle and rank stripes for a 2nd Class Petty Officer. Originally the rank displayed a 3rd class but the second chevron was installed with red tape. Good looking helmet with lots of patina. Hard to say when the Navy paint was done as these helmets tended to stay onboard ships for many years.

German WWI M1916 Steel Helmet, Complete, Oldenburg Shell (3 photos)
$475.00
|
Original era manufacture. Standard pattern helmet complete with its original liner and brown leather chinstrap. Original feldgrau paint finish to the shell which shows proper age and wear. On the left side of the helmet is a handpainted blue/red shield, the colors of Oldenburg. The shield is rather crudely done, shows age and looks right. We like it, but we understand it is always a leap of faith regarding handpainted insignia. The liner while complete, shows a rather inexpert repair attempt on the front pad using the ill-advised application of scotchtape, another leap of faith. The other two pads are more solidly attached to the leather liner band. The chinstrap is unbroken but a bit stiff so care must be used in handling. Purchased from a local collector whom we have known for well over 20 years who has been downsizing a bit.

US WWI M1917 7th Infantry Doughboy Helmet, Wilmer Eye Shield (7 photos)
$145.00
|
Original era manufacture. This is a fairly complete example of the M1917 Doughboy steel helmet with three rings on each side to attach the experimental Wilmer Shield. A steel curtain-like device intended to reduce eye wounds from shell splinters. This was an experimental device and was not adopted for general use. On the front of the helmet is an original handpainted insignia for the 7th Infantry Division which served in France during WWI. The underside of the oilcloth liner is unmarked, and the gray felt liner top shows damage from wear and use. The chinstrap is unbroken with some surface dryness. Sound unmolested example overall.

US WWII Mfg M1 Swivel Bale Helmet, Identified (6 photos)
$235.00
|
Original era manufacture. Front seam, reflective edge helmet with original sewn light OD chinstraps with blackened steel fittings. The helmet's exterior shows a gloss dark OD paint over its original factory finish with the original paint remaining on the interior. There are a few dings and dents in the helmet's surface nothing dramatic just typical soldier use. The WWII liner is made by Westinghouse and shows a mix of light and dark OD webbing with an adjustable nape strap in place. The leather chinstrap is intact but a bit dry with a green colored steel adjusting buckle. Perhaps the most interesting feature regarding the helmet is the hand applied name and serial number of the soldier on the interior of both the helmet and liner. While doing a Google search regarding this helmet several listings appeared where a previous owner of this helmet had attempted to do some research regarding the soldier. What I can determine is the man served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and now rests in Arlington Cemetery. Excellent research potential remains for the new owner.
