Item #36751

Original era manufacture. Korean War Carnegie Cafe Brown Shoulder Bag.
The shoulder bag was made of cafe brown calf with an expandable gussett bottom. The leather shoulder strap was adjustable, but could not be removed. The bag was lined in dark chocolate brown and has a center partition. The back section has a welted zippered compartment. The front of the partition has two horizontal cloth pockets, one above the other. The short flap was fastened with a  antique gold button snap, embossed with the coat of arms of the Army (Eagle Snap). Unique to this shoulder bag was a small wallet (or passport pocket), whose flap extended to the outside of the purse, giving the appearance of another pocket on the front of the purse. It also had an antique gold Eagle Snap. When undone, the walled pulled from the purse, revealing three horizontal cloth compartments, one above the other. THe wall is held in place by a matching piece of chocolate-colored lining material and could not be removed from the bag. The shoulder bag was carried by all ranks. The use of this shoulder bag was discontinued in 1962.
This bag may be seen in Dressed for Duty, page 381.

This purse retains all of the original straps and coin purse. Normal age and wear.
