Item #33419 : Original era manufacture. Fine quality spelter statue of a returning soldier (La Retour) mounted upon a black painted, turned wood base. The overall height is just under 13 inches, with the soldier being around 10 inches.Large numbers ofFrench troops went in to captivity during the Franco PrussianWar of 1870-71. With some of the greatest losses ocurring after the Battle of Sedan and the surrender of the Fortress of Metz. The soldier sports an old gilt paint finishand his walking stick is slightly bent. The turned woodbase has a few dings and dents, but for being well over one hundredyears old he'slooking pretty good.
