US Pre WWI, M1905 Bayonet, SA 1909 Blade, 1st Model Scabbard

Item #41807

Original period manufacture. A sound and complete example of the bayonet pattern adopted for use with the M1903 Springfield Rifle.

1909 blade date on the ricasso, made by Springfield Arsenal. The blade is finished in the bright, with a thin band of blue at the base of the blade. No surface corrosion pitting or evidence of sharpening, just some light staining from age near the tip.

Mix of blue and steel patina finishto the guard and pommel, the lock mechanism works properly. Original rough-hewn walnut grips in original finish, very clean with no issues.

The leather covering on the wooden bodied scabbard is very nice, RIA 1909 date on the reverse, nice luster to the leather surface, tight stitching, and a drain hole in the tip of the scabbard.

The blue finished Krag style hanger displays just a touch of some light surface corrosion on its reverse, and on the reverse of the scabbard throat, but nothing terrible, and should clean up easily.

Overall, this is a very nice example of the first pattern Springfield bayonet.
