 Original era manufacture. Classic headgear as worn by Union soldiers during the American Civil War 1861-1865. Blue wool body with a painted leather visor and chinstrap with original sewn brass buttons, one on each side. Brown polished cotton lining with a wide leather sweatband. There is some minor (for its age) scattered mothing but overall the hat is quite sound. In the 1925 Bannerman's catalog hats similar to this one were being offered for sale at a price of 45 cents. Times have changed.

 This hat is made of matching green wool material to match the winter uniform. The back of the cap is tapered to a point and the scarlet (Montezuma red) cord with tassels are sewn to the visor of the hat. Each end of the cords is fastened to the hat by a small blackened bronze button. Near new condition. Two very small moth nips on the right side. Size 22 1/2. Just needs the blackened bronze screw-back eagle, globe and anchor device for the center of the cap top.

 Original era manufacture. Navy officers pattern hat with a dark blue wool top and hand embroidered gold bullion insignia on the front consisting of an eagle with a crossed anchor and caduceus. Black plastic covered visor with a leather underside, leather sweatband maker marked by Bancroft. Size marked 6 7/8. May date from the Korean War era, although the interior does not glow under a UV light. Light age and wear. Scarce hat to find.

German Pre 1897 Saxon 108 Infantry or Jager Officers Visor Hat

 Original era manufacture. Likely dating from the 1880's is this early pattern officers quality schirmmutze. It is of a color combination worn by officers of several Royal Saxon foot units, the 108th Infantry and the Saxon Jaeger Battalions. Dark green doeskin wool top with a black velvet band and red piping. Single kokarde at front which is correct for a pre 1897 hat. Soiled yellow silk lining with old costume house stampings and a small rectangulr tear in the fabric. Tall brown morroccan leather sweatband in good repair. No moth damage to speak of, just a little out of round from storage. A unique style hat of a pattern we seldom see offered.

 Original era manufacture. The smallest of Germany's Axis partners during WWII, this coarse brown wool forage cap was worn by her serving enlisted men. Bulgarian crowned lion emblem at front with two Artillery buttons below. Simple brown cotton lining with an assortment of issue marks, plain tan leather sweatband. The hat is basically sound but does show scattered mothing, most being located at the point where the visor attaches to the body of the hat on the left side.
