US Pre WWII USS California Pillow Cover, Navy Review 1938 (4 photos)
$55.00
|
Original era manufacture. Nice quality period pillow cover which announces the USS California as flying the Presidents Flag during the Fleet Review in 1938. Blue and gold wool felt construction with a printed image of the USS California at center. Light age and wear. Measures 20x20 inches, would like great in a frame. The USS California was commissioned in 1921 and for many years was the flagship of the Pacific Fleet. Sunk at her moorings on December 7th, with two of her crew being awarded the Medal of Honor. She was refloated and repaired and rejoined the fleet in 1944 and saw combat until struck by a Kamikaze while conducting shore bombardment during the retaking of the Philippines. She was stricken from the Navy list and scrapped in 1959.
